Stop Pissing Me Off

So there are a number of things pissing me off recently and i started this blog to vent, so dammit I'm gonna motherfucking vent.

1. I'm so tired of people and their blanket statements about political parties. Seriously, all liberals are not tree-hugging, gay, minority baby-killers just like all conservatives are not homophobic, racist, ignorant gun owners. I mean I dare anybody out there to find a conservative that is all "i'm going to litter because i don't give two shits about the environment" or a liberal that says "we should abort all babies because the human race should die off." Blanket statements just make me want to punch puppies because they are so ignorant and ridiculous. Seriously, stop- they just make you look foolish.

2. Shitty Tippers. Listen you motherfuckers, I work for 2.13 an hour. That's way way way under minimum wage. I don't complain about that so much cause its the way it works. But for you douchebags to tip less than 10% just makes me want to crotch punch you. Lets do a little math here. If the check is $100 bucks then 10% is 10 dollars. Of those 10 bucks I have to tip out 3 to my busser/food runner/bartender, leaving me a net of 7 dollars.

And I've been getting a string of shitty tippers at work recently, most of the Canadian, European, general American douchebag kind. But seriously I got 5 on $93 check, 13 on $147 and 5 on $70, I lose money on those tables. I mean i am basically paying for those people to eat in my restaurant. There is a reason that tips should be 15-18%. The other day i got a string of all of them and i just wanted to curl up in the fetal position and cry. I can't afford dog food on some of the tips i have been making. I can't wait for the summer season to start

Also if you go to a restaurant and run up a $125 bill and then pay 75 dollars on gift cards, you still need to tip on that initial 125 dollars. I still have to tip out based on that 125 dollars, so even though you might have only paid 50 bucks, leaving me a 7 dollar tip is still going to make me want to string you up by your toes and throw tomatoes at you.

3. Gas Prices- i know there is like a bunch of unrest and uprisings in the middle east, but dammit that is not an excuse for OPEC to be raising my gas prices.  $3.50 a gallon is beyond too much. I'm old enough to remember when i got gas for .98 cents a gallon. I can't afford to get gas with the shitty tippers i am getting right now!

4. People who type like this:

"damn ur beautiful wuz gud can i get to kno u. do u like blk guys. i just move to [redacted] from jersey u should def gimme a chance to get to kno u sexi hit me u eva cum to da [redacted]"
This is an actual message sent to me on OKCupid. I mean i'm flattered that some guy think i am beautiful but I have no fucking clue what he said after that. I'm pretty sure this isn't English, its not even Ebonics, its just a bunch of letters randomly thrown onto a computer screen. I am impressed that he managed to use periods, even though they were not used properly. But yeah, he won't be getting a return response.

I know someone like this, actually: "i'm going to litter because i don't give two shits about the environment"

Obviously stereotypes are never true across the board, but they persist for a reason.

I think the point is that just because there are SOME stereotypes in both political parties doesn't mean that people should group every single person in that political party with the crazy people. The Tea Party people are NOT what the entire Republican party looks like, for instance, yet people like to rope all of them together, and that's complete and total bullshit. Saying "I hate Republicans because they all..." is ridiculous. There are different reasons to be a Republican. Every single person in the Republican party doesn't hold the exact same views.

The tipping thing is so infuriating. I've been to restaurants with friends before who gave really shitty tips, and it's so embarrassing to be with people like that. I always have to leave a bigger tip because I feel bad. And I ALWAYS tip 20% at least. I figure if you can't afford to leave a 20% tip, you need to order your food to go and eat it at home. That's what I do when I'm trying to save money!

And gas prices are ridiculous, man. We have some of the cheapest gas in the entire country right now, and it's killing us! Andy and I have been car pooling to work and school and saving loooooaaaads of money.

the tipping thing is a touchy subject, in my opinion. i can always tell if i'm out with people who have never worked in the restaurant industry before bc they leave the measliest tips, and that's after they've asked to switch tables fives times and run the waitress ragged with drink refills. or better yet, when we first walk in, hear that there's a 15 minute wait, and then someone has the nerve to say "i see open tables right there."

i swear i've been somewhere before (maybe it was abroad...?) where either the bill or the table had a tipping guide on it. most likely for tourists. or assholes.

I apologize for shitty Canadian tippers. We're supposed to leave 20% but not everyone does. Even when I waitressed, though, I thought 10% was decent. However, our waitresses always make at least minimum wage (no less then 8) so I think a lot of ignorants don't realize you're not even at minimum level. Even my $25 an hour friend persists on thinking that tipping is something nice that she'll do if she feels like it. Leaving me to cover her dollar tip with my measly income.

I always found Europeans (especially Germans!) to be terrible. I was told repeatedly when I was traveling there that tipping isn't expected because it's already covered through decent wages. I never quite managed to believe/get over it though.

The worst was an asshole Indian-Canadian Rich kid I met in Turkey who was doing something like ten countries in two weeks. He said (in TURKEY) that he never tipped because he was sure that Turkish waiters make good money anyway. Jerk had obviously never worked pubic service a day in his life as he flashed around his $1000 camera and talked down about locals.

All the things you mention piss me off as well, good job!!

1. no one political side is made up of all the same people, that is actually impossible. People jut like ot talk.

2. Whenever I go out I try to be a generous tipper. Even if the service isn't so great Is till tip because I feel bad, I mean everyone is just trying to make some money.

3. don't even get me started.

4. If you type like that, I will not talk to you. What is wrong with you ? English people english !!

Amen on all four counts.

As for shitty tippers. I have a question for you:

My best friend is a notoriously lousy tipper. I refuse to leave anything less than 20% unless the waitress was absolutely awful. We were at a restaurant several years ago (summer before senior year of high school) and we had $50 in gift cards. Our bill was like $45. Because that only left $5 to be transferred to tip and because we were broke and only had change, I insisted on leaving about $5 in change. She yelled at me and told me that this was stupid because it sucks to get tipped in change. BUT, would you rather get the $5 in change (from what is obviously two kids who don't have anything other than change) or just not get it at all. (My mother told me that she would rather have not gotten the tip at all. I still contend that everyone else is wrong, even though I can't seem to find a single person who agrees with me.)

Ugh, I HATE shitty tippers. I used to work in a restaurant, and those people used to make me want to strangle them. I always tip 20% - minimum because I know what a bitch of a job waitressing can be.

And I remember when gas was less than a dollar. I also remember that prices started getting high when I was just old enough to drive, because I remember thinking, "fuck! Now I can't drive much. Thanks, stupid war!" Now, as an unemployed graduate, I'm seriously considering switching to bike power. It'll save me money AND make my ass look fabulous. Win-win for me!

I don't know what you're talking about, that guy sounds like a CATCH. I love it when my date and I can't communicate in the same language! Mystery just makes it more exciting!! ;)

There is nothing like a good rant. I can't comment on tipping because it works differently here. As for politics, I just don't like anyone who likes a party just because they 'always and never questioned it. No progress that way.

@Tsa- Thank you for furthering my point. Obviously that guy is a tool and probably not even a republican

@Sara- Exactly, anyone who doesn't seem that it is not black and white is a moron. Every single republican doesn't believe everything just like every democrat doesn't believe the same things.

It's just been really aggravating recently because its been a string of shitty tippers. Also jealous of carpooling!

@Lucky- It is a touchy subject but i think more so for people who have never worked in the industry. OMG, those people you talk about are the worst. Tipping guides are a good idea but that assumes that people read, and most don't.

@Kris- Its okay, they aren't all shitty just some of them. I think thats the problem in general, everyone thinks we make minimum wage when we don't. I never see that 2.13 an hour either, it gets eaten up by taxes.

That kid in turkey sounds like a douchebag. He definitely needs to work in public service for like a month!

@Penny- I love you. You sum up my feelings on the issues so perfectly. Also, English its not that hard!

@Nicole- I would totally appreciate the 5 bucks in change. I jingle daily at work anyways. 5 bucks is 5 bucks you know? Plus i have a change bucket at home anyways. So i agree with you! I'm sure the waitress appreciated it too

@Colleen- Strangling people sounds delightful some days. Bike does sound like a good idea, if i didn't live so far away from my job i would totes change.

@Bi- Oh yeah, he's a winner. I wonder if he talks in text speak in real life too?

@Andy- Yeah every once and awhile i need to have one. Yeah i know tipping works differently in other places, but i would at least learn before i went to visit. And i agree about liking a party without knowing why. I feel like that is just the easy stupid way out.

Okay... Um...I'm gonna try to explain the shitty tipping, because I know I was a shitty tipper a couple of times on my way round Florida..

Here in Ireland everybody no matter what their job (unless it's illegal) is paid €7.65 an hour which translates to... *checks xe*.. $10.57.

The golden rule for tipping here is 10% - no more (unless you're showing off), no less (unless you're a scabby git). Everybody pays 10%. It's an easy rule to apply.

I found America extremely frustrating - first with the add-on tax thing (don't get me started. HOW DO YOU LIVE LIKE THAT?) and then when Scrubs told me that servers get shitty wages. We were completely flummoxed. We gave out wildly different tips, ranging from 10% to 25%.

I don't think it's fair to hate on us Europeans for being terrible tippers - we come from places where the wages are fair and decent and make sense! But I have learned my lesson.

Also you Americans have it so good with the petrol that every time I hear one of you complain that it's OMGTHREEDOLLARSFIFTYAREYOUKIDDINGMEI want to pimpslap you. Hush now!

And bad English and text speak is just disaster. Yech.

Harley said...

Sorry I meant that minimum wage is $10.57, not that everybody gets paid the same!

Petrol costs $7.70 a gallon over here.

If you can't afford to tip 20%, don't go out to eat! it amazes me that people don't understand that. UGH

I would never leave a tip like that. 20% people. I find it's usually wealthy people that are the worst tippers.
